Computer services company Sherwood International has seen a return to financial strength over recent years, according to chief executive George Matthews and finance director Stephen Bellamy. It has made a number of disposals, and has also undertaken some investments, including the purchase of an 80% stake in City Deal Services, which was later sold at a large profit. It is now concentrating on areas with particularly high growth potential, including providing technology-based services to the life and pensions industry.

Duco warms to the idea of blanket coverage

Article Abstract:

Printing equipment company, Duco International, has been bought over by its management team from Unipoly Group in a deal worth 25.5 million pounds sterling. The deal was completed in less than six weeks and it is the second time that the managers have tried to buy it out. Duco makes blankets for the printing industry and it has been in existence for 75 years. Turnover in 1998 was 15.6 million pounds and profits were 3.2 million pounds.

Winning away from home. (Harry Lambert, Adscene Group)

Article Abstract:

The Adscene Group, a newspaper publisher, is headed by Harry Lambert as chairman and chief executive, and recently acquired the Tamworth Herald group for almost 20 million pounds sterling. This was despite a higher offer from competing bidder, Midland Independent Newspapers. Adscene plans to purchase other desirable titles that become available, taking advantage of the upheaval in the industry.
