A friendship forged in spying pays dividends in Russia today

Matthias Warnig, head of Dresdner Bank AG in Russia is very much in the business forefront and has been nominated to the board of directors of OAO Gazprom. He is an associate of Russian President Vladimir Putin going back to East Germany in the 1980's when Mr. Putin was with the KGB and Mr. Warnig, East Germany's Stasi.

Buyers may shift to yen for Iran oil: Japan refiners weigh dropping U.S. dollar as favored currency
Article Abstract:
Japan's biggest refiner by capacity, Nippon Oil Corp., plans to begin paying in yen for crude oil from Iran by fall of 2007. The agreement is in keeping with Iran's efforts to lower its US-dollar holdings. Nippon Oil purchases approximately 120,000 barrels per day from National Iranian Oil Co.
