A frothy market for deals
Article Abstract:
The UK brewing and public house market has been dominated by pub companies purchasing public houses from the large brewers, such as Growbase's purchase of 1,410 pubs from Bass for 564 million pounds sterling, in 1998. The brewers are concentrating their investments in the leisure industry. Industry experts suggest the cost of pubs are unlikely to decline although the economic slowdown in the UK will reduce income for a period. The 1992 Beer Orders act increased competition in the pub industry, led to the growth of pub-restaurants and allowed smaller companies to enter the market.
