A grey market
Article Abstract:
The European Union (EU) has banned grey imports where branded goods are purchased cheaply from sources outside the EU. The sources are mainly in Asia and the US and prices maybe as much as 50% less. Supporters of grey imports argue that they improve consumer choice, promote competition, and note that prices are being maintained at an artifically high level in some European countries. Major retailers can withstand threats of legal action, and benefit from publicity, but smaller retailers are vulnerable. Law firms are benefiting from this dispute, while consumers are suffering.

Kohl's dishnour
Article Abstract:
Former German chancellor, Helmut Kohl, has been affected by a corruption scandal, and could face prosecution over secret donations to his party. Germany is seeing an economic recovery and drop in unemployment which should benefit the Social Democrats. Chancellor Gerhard Schroder of the Social Democrats should not take refuge in left-wing policies, since he has to tackle a number of issues that are likely to be unpopular, such as the need for pension reform.
