A knowledge-based perspective on the transformation of individual-level relationships into inter-organizational structures: the case of R and D consortia
Article Abstract:
Individuals have an important role in the formation and structure of research and development consortia. A study of research and development consortia found the use of individual networks were important when companies came together under joint venture agreements, particularly when there were major differences in behavior between the two companies. Information was more readily shared and the location of the research department was situated in either company. Companies without personal links between workers required a separate research establishment and a comprehensive contract.
