A nation once again?
Article Abstract:
A new Scottish Parliament is being set up which will be able to raise taxes and pass laws. Social security, taxation, macroeconomic policy, foreign policy and defense will be the responsibility of the United Kingdom government based in London, England. Scottish nationalism is not linked to language or religion, but there is a strong attachment to the civic institutions of Scotland, such as universities and schools. There should be a number of benefits for the United Kingdom as a whole, such as the increase in policy experimentation.

A Geordie nation?
Article Abstract:
The North-East may be the first England region to have an elected regional assembly. Academics see the region as having similarities with Scotland, and there is local support for an assembly. There is concern that Scotland could gain more in government funding if the North-East has no assembly. There are internal divisions within the region, and many local businessmen oppose the notion of an assembly. There is also cynicism due to the poor reputation of much of te local government of the North-East.
