A new Arab voice in a difficult world
Article Abstract:
The Arab News Network survived 12 months of broadcasting after being launched in 1997. The round-the-clock satellite channel intends to rival CNN in the Arab market. However, advertising expenditures in the Arab market is rather modest at $1.8 billion in the main GCC markets. Other satellite channels are also competing with the fledgling network. Arab News Network executive manager and station head Paul Hitti believes that this channel is the most advanced and autonomous yet. Hitti stressed that Arab News Network was founded to promote the Arab culture. It also advocates a free market, freedom of speech, and democratic values.

Street fighter
Article Abstract:
TV Azteca of Mexico has been jointly running a weekly TV guide called Mia Guia with publisher Rafael Amador Martinez. Ironically, the guide was conceptualized by rival Tele Guia's founder. Mia Guia claims to have a more extensive list of television offerings than Tele Guia. Martinez noted that Mia Guia was produced to offset the decreasing quality of Tele Guia. Tele Guia only maintains about 350,000 in circulation after previously posting 1.25 million in circulation. However, Tele Guia has better advertising material than Mia Guia.
