Karosa increases exports

Karosa (Vysoke Myto, Czech Republic), bus manufacturer, increased its exports by 15% in 1999 compared to 1998. The firm sold a total of 1,235 buses in 1999. In 1999 it exported 673 vehicles, mainly to France, Slovakia, Lithuania, Bosnia, Lebanon and Belgium. There is demand for about 600 buses per year on the domestic market currently compared to 3,000 pieces at the end of the 1980's.

A new paint shop at Karosa
Article Abstract:
Karosa (Vysoke Myto, Czech Republic), bus manufacturer, will build a new paint shop. The investment costs on the paint shop's construction should be 0.5 bil Kc. The paint shop's maximum daily capacity will be 10 vehicles and five semi-trailers in two shifts. The paint shop should be commissioned in the middle of July 2001. The contract will be realised by a consortium of the companies ABB from the Czech Republic, Germany and France. The supplies of construction jobs for the project will be realised by Czech firms fully.

Tatra's turning point
Article Abstract:
Tatra (Koprivnice, Czech Republic), motor company, will be acquired by SDC International (SDC) (US). At the end of July 1998, SDC arranged two contracts on the purchase of Tatra. The first contract is an agreement about a contract on the future acquisition of a 43.5% stake in Tatra. The contract was arranged with Skoda (Plzen, Czech Republic). The other contract, which was arranged with Komercni banka (Czech Republic), regards the purchase of the bank's cheap receivables worth 2.8 bil Kc towards Tatra. The whole transaction should be completed on 30 September 1998. SDC will probably change the bank debts to owned capital. Then, the firm will hold a 84% stake in Tatra. The number of Tatra's employees will decrease by 20%. Tatra has started its production at a joint venture in India and is preparing to set up other joint ventures in China, Russia, Uzbekistan and Brazil. The firm's foreign firms should produce about 2,000 lorries after 2000.
