A not-so-rainy day
Article Abstract:
Hebrew University of Jerusalem's Daniel Rosenfeld has found that industrial pollution can make clouds shine more brightly and he also argues that there may be less rain in areas downwind of pollution. Droplets form round a nucleation center and have to be large to fall as rain. A large number of nucleation centers may mean that droplets are smaller. Radar measurements of cloud and rainfall do show that there is less rain within pollution plumes than outside them.

The way to dusty death: air pollution
Article Abstract:
Small particles can be even more dangerous than large pollution particles because they are not stopped by nose hairs and they may get into the tiny alveoli of the lungs where oxygen is transferred to the blood. If particles reach the blood they can lead to increased incidence of cardiac disease.

Less NOxious: pollution control
Article Abstract:
Czechoslovakia needs cheap industrial pollution controls, since costly Western technology is not justifiable for its rusting factories. Nalco Fuel-Tech has greatly reduced nitrogen oxide emissions at an Ostrava steel plant with a low-installment-cost urea system.
