A special feature: Indonesia
Article Abstract:
In Indonesia, the largest nation of Southeast Asia, Australian companies have gone into survival mode. They still have a commitment to Indonesia over the longer term according to Austrade and its senior trade commissioner in Jakarta. Some companies likely will leave, but most will try to slim down and get by. There are almost 400 Australian companies with some operations in Indonesia, and Australia fears massive amounts of exports from Indonesia. Garments and clothing were the second-largest non-oil export from Indonesia in 1996 with plywood the first.
