Delegates met at London's Institute of Mechanical Engineers to discuss the future of skyscrapers in the wake of September 11. There remains a commitment to building skyscrapers but future skyscrapers will be built stronger and safer. Increasing demands for office space in cities requires the construction of tall buildings.

London aims high for 20 new towers
Article Abstract:
Issues are presented concerning the plans of the Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, for 20 new high-rise buildings to be constructed in London, England. The lessons to be learnt from the collapse of the World Trade Center in New York in 2001 are discussed.
