A year for growth
Article Abstract:
The UK construction industry saw signs of a revival in 1996, with tender prices rising by 4% over the year. It is forecast that tender prices will rise by at least 4% to 6% over both 1998 and 1999. New orders rose in 1996 from 1995, but were still 20% below the level of new orders seen in 1989. Underlying construction costs rose by 2.4% in 1996, and are predicted to rise by 3% to 5% in both 1998 and 1999. Demand in the private sector is set to rise, and the industry will also be boosted by millennium and private finance initiative work.
