AD AGENCIES GEAR UP FOR THE SMALL BRIGADE

The advertising agencies in India are preparing themselves to handle the advertising campaign of the small cars that will be launched soon. Equus, an advertising company that has secured the account of Matiz, a small car, proposes to use vernacular advertising. It proposes to divide the Rs6-7 crore adspend in the ratio of 60:40 between the mainstream and the vernacular media. It is also considering outdoor and direct marketing options. Saatchi & Saatchi, another advertisement company, plans to familiarise the customers both with corporate identity of Hyundai, a small car producer, and its product. (ag)

HMIL TO LAUNCH LUXURY CAR IN OCT

Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) plans to launch its luxury car Hyundai LC in the first week of October 1999. The new luxury car will be a modified version of Accent. Accent will be launched in Korea in August 1999 and will be launched in Europe and India in October 1999. The luxury car may be priced similar to Maruti Udyog's Esteem car. HMIL has started exports of its car and plans to export 20 percent of the production to Korea. It is planning to tie up with Kotak Mahindra and ICICI for finance and leasing options for its cars. WILL MINT MINT TELCO'S SUCCESS

Telco plans to launch its small car called Mint in October 1998. The heavy and light commercial vehicles sector continues to show a negative growth. Telco's turnover has decreased by 32 percent in the first quarter of 1998-99. It has shown a net loss of Rs36 crore in the first quarter of 1998-99 against a net profit of Rs91 crore in the first quarter of 1997-98. Its sales of heavy commercial vehicles decreased by 57 percent while sales of light commercial vehicles decreased by 14.77 percent during April-June 1998. (khr)
