Austria: Opposition to collective system reform
Article Abstract:
In Austria trade unions have described suggestions by the government that the collective agreement system be reformed as a "declaration of war". The government would like to encourage more internal company agreements, but the trade unions believe that the present system, in which there are some internal company agreements as part of the collective system as ideal in terms of flexibility and the ability to take the entire economy into account. 98% of Austrian employees work under the collective agreement system, and there are 1442 collective agreements in the country.

Austria: New health and safety laws
Article Abstract:
The Austrian government is to introduce reforms to the health and safety laws in an attempt to reduce workplace accidents. Under the new laws, health and safety inspectors will be able to inspect premises without warning. Inspectors will also be required to offer businesses more advice.
