AUSTRIA: DIE PRESSE IN ELECTRONIC FORM
Article Abstract:
The national daily Die Presse claims to be the first newspaper in Austria to introduce an electronic version of the paper with the full content of the printed version. The publisher is to test the electronic paper with 200 readers from 1 June 2001. Later on subscribers will have the option to convert their subscriptions for the electronic version. The electronic version is available for download from about 18.00 hours on the day preceding the publication date. The paper can be read with the NewsStand Reader software of the Austin, US-based company NewsStand. The electronic paper contains the same pictures and advertising as the printed version, but no banner advertising.

AUSTRIA: NEW MULTIMEDIA SERVICE BY APA
Article Abstract:
Austria Presse Agentur (APA) has automated its multimedia service that provides text, images, audio, graphics and video features for web sites. With the automated service, which is to be launched in January 2001, the Austrian news agency aims to generate a turnover of Sch 20mn in the first year and reach break-even in the second year. The service, for which 80 staff produce about 300 news elements per day and which does not target private internet surfers, was already used by dozens of clients in the non-automated version. The usage is paid by the number of page impressions.

Versicherungs-News-Magazin, an independent magazine on the insurance sector in Austria, has launched the web site www.versicherungsnavigator.at. The site contains a review of the Austrian insurance industry and contains information and advice on insurance cover and premiums as well as documents such as forms for notices of damage for down-loading.
