AUSTRIA/E EUROPE: BANCA DEL GOTTARDO TO EXPAND
Article Abstract:
Banca del Gottardo, a Lugano-based subsidiary of Rentenanstalt/Swiss Life, is to expand its activities in Austria and eastern Europe. The volume of client assets managed in Vienna is to be raised to Sch 5bn by 2005 from more than Sch 2bn at present. The Swiss bank has a subsidiary in Vienna called Gottardo Asset Management, in which it holds an 80% stake. Originally the asset management company was set up as a joint venture with Hypo Vorarlberg under the name Valor Vermogensverwaltung. Banca del Gottardo is to set up representations in Budapest and Warsaw. It is already represented in Prague.

Austria: SKWB-Schoellerbank sells OeKB shares
Article Abstract:
The spokesman of Bank Austria (BA), Martin Hehemann, confirmed that the SKWB-Schoellerbank, which is part of the BA/CA group, is going to sell its 8.26% share of the Austrian finance institute for export and capital market, Osterreichische Kontrollbank (OeKB), and that there is already a prospective buyer. The SKWB-Schoellerbank plans to concentrate its business in the sector of fund management. Wolfgang Heller, director of BA, disproved rumours about plans to sell SKWB-Schoellerbank.

AUSTRIA: NEWEX TO BE REVIEWED
Article Abstract:
According to board member Erich Obersteiner, Newex is to undergo a review in the first quarter of 2001. The 50:50 joint venture of Vienna and Frankfurt stock exchanges for trading in east European shares was launched in November 2000. By January 2001 trading volume had fallen to EUR 497,963. Obersteiner says that the technical facilities for accessing Newex are to be improved.
