AUSTRIA: MOBILE PHONE BOOM SLOWING DOWN
Article Abstract:
Austrian mobile phone operators had about 4.7mn customers in June 2000. The companies agree that the originally set goal of 5.6mn clients, which would correspond to a penetration of 70%, will be difficult to reach by the end of the year. In the first half of 2000, Mobilkom, Max.mobil and One won 700,000 new clients. Tele.ring entered the market in May. The companies are expecting a boost from the GPRS and WAP technologies. However, networks and terminals are not yet available in Austria.
