AUSTRIA: VOEST-ALPINE TO BUY AUTOMOTIVE SUPPLIER?
Article Abstract:
Following the group's restructuring and the creation of an automotive division, Austrian Voest-Alpine is now looking for suitable takeover targets. The aim is to raise the turnover of the automotive division to about EUR 1bn before the end of 2001, Voest's chief Peter Strahammer told Die Presse. However, Voest-Alpine is only interested in segments where it can play a leading role. Voest is "extending the value added chain" in order to become less dependent on the commodity cycle. Mr Strahammer sees hardly any risk that Voest's customers might regard the new automotive division as a competitor.
