A general theory of spin doctors
Article Abstract:
Spin doctors are used in both the US and Britain, and two British spin doctors, working for different political parties, are both authors. Alistair Campbell, who advises the Labor Party, once wrote soft porn articles, while Amanda Platell, who works for the Conservative Party, has written a novel in which sexual encounters feature prominently. This additional activity of the spin doctors helps shed light on why they are used by polticians who wish to have wider appeal.

The betting's off
Article Abstract:
Kenny Guinn, Republican, and Jan Jones, Democrat, are competing for the governorship of Nevada. Jones has been Las Vegas mayor and has performed well, though there was a reaction against her suggestion that slot machine numbers in supermarkets should be limited. Guinn has been University of Nevada president, and is the son of a Californian crop picker. Nevada has traditionally been Democrat, but the West is tending to shift toward the political right.
