AUSTRIA: PC SALES DECLINING

According to IBM, the sales of PCs in Austria in the first half of 2001 decreased by 6%. Sales to private users dropped by 22%. Thus the development in Austria was more negative than on other European markets. In the second quarter, however, the sales of notebooks increased 23%. IBM reports a trend towards flat screens, non-complex internet access and network computing.

AUSTRIA: COMPAQ, FUJITSU SIEMENS LEAD PC SALES
Article Abstract:
In year 2000, 610,223 personal computers were sold in Austria, up 12.4% from 1999. According to figures by ICD, the market was worth Sch 13.496bn. In value terms, Compaq was the market leader with sales of 120,313 PCs (up 19.7%) worth Sch 2.978bn. Fujitsu Siemens sold more computers, although its sales declined by 2.4% to 134,094 units worth Sch 2.33bn.
