The takeover of London derivatives exchange Liffe by Euronext could lead to further consolidation amongst European stock exchanges. The London Stock Exchange had been expected to acquire Liffe, and must now develop other strategies, as must Deutsche Borse.

The takeover of London derivatives exchange Liffe by Euronext has left the London Stock Exchange (LSE) searching for a new strategy. The LSE had sought a merger with Liffe. However, the Euronext move may benefit London and exchanges in Europe.
