The US welfare reform program has been a success in many ways since its introduction in 1995, but much more remains to be done. The number of welfare recipients may have fallen, but poverty is still a big problem.

Poverty affects many working families with children in the US, and a drop in low-skill earnings is one reason for poverty. Measures which have been taken and could be taken are examined in detail.
