Analysts move to defensive position toward high-performing Thai banks
Article Abstract:
Analysts believe that Thailand's highly profitable banks must now adopt a defensive stance in view of growing bad property loans and narrowing interest margins. Loan problems are on the rise as a result of high interest rates and oversupply in the Thai property market. The level of bank loans in the property sector, estimated at 11%, could lead to a continued decline in bank earnings. Analysts caution investors to look more closely on a bank's asset quality, balance sheets, profitability and real value instead of on relative earnings growth.

Nakornthon and Bank of Nova Scotia end takeover talks
Article Abstract:
The acquisition deal between Nakornthon Bank PLC and Bank of Nova Scotia may be far from being realized as officials failed to come up with a definite price agreement. Sources revealed that Nakornthon officials refused the 15 baht per share bid offered by Bank of Novia, which was also demanding to acquire full management control of Nakornthon's shares. Despite such negotiations, Nakornthon's shares have virtually remained stable at 14.50 baht a piece, corresponding to a total market value of 2.92 billion baht.
