...And doggedly plays Washington to its advantage
Article Abstract:
The agreement signed between the US and North Korea leaves many important issues unanswered and it is very possible that it will only provide Pyongyang with some breathing space. The Clinton administration hailed North Korea's decision to discontinue its nuclear weapons program and it was assumed that Pyongyang would comply with the agreements it had signed. However, US authorities must remember that North Korea's ambition is to reunify the peninsula under its terms and that it has lagged behind its Southern neighbor in terms of everything but military capability.

North Korea's tragedy derives from policies distinctly formulated and relentlessly implemented
Article Abstract:
The international community's response to North Korea's appeal for food aid has been overwhelming. International agencies have planned advance shipments of grain to Pyongyang in addition to some 1 million tons already given. Analysis of the country's situation reveals problems in food supply since the 1980s. The country's own inefficient food supply polices can be blamed for its occurrence. Backward policies on transportation, energy, and agriculture are seen as contributing factors for the shortage.

Falling into North Korea's trap
Article Abstract:
The US government's publicly denied its agreement to provide North Korea with food aid in return for access to the latter's suspected nuclear weapon manufacturing facilities. This move highlights the US' reluctance to admit its being successfully manipulated by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). The nuclear weapon proliferation problem was intentionally contrived by the DPRK to invite interference from the US and to gain favorable economic settlements.
