Apples In The Alps Aid Atomic Research
Article Abstract:
CERN is a nuclear research laboratory in Switzerland. SPS is an underground tunnel encircling the site. In SPS scientists are able to run nuclear experiments. The group has thirty Apple computers. One is used to check radiation levels in the surrounding area. Radiation levels are shown on a graph, or a hard copy can be produced. The Apple can send data to the Nord-10, a minicomputer. The Apple also can access information from Nord-10 databases. Another Apple is helping in a calibration process which is still being partially done manually. A photograph of the calibration chamber is included.

Galvanized for action
Article Abstract:
The acquisition of galvanized steel bath specialist Pillar Wedge by fellow galvanizer, Midlands-based B.E. Wedge, illustrates the advantages of growth through acquisition. The merger of the two companies gives B.E. Wedge an increased customer base and widens its galvanizing interests. The acquisition of Pillar Wedge, which has historical links to the acquirer, was financed by venture capital company 3i, which has been a long-term investor in B.E. Wedge.
