Arthur Raymond
Article Abstract:
Arthur Raymond was an aircraft designer who headed the team that designed the Dakota or CS-3. This aircraft helped to boost mass air travel. Raymond worked for the Douglas company, which found that demand for this aircraft was high. The wings of the aircraft were especially strong, and it could be seen as overengineered, but was also seen as almost indestructible. Raymond worked for over 50 years, designing a number of aircraft. He was also a founder of a think-tank on security and other issues, called RAND, which had an impact on the US government's policies, but he is best known for the Dakota.
