Article Abstract:
Australia's Defense 2000 white paper reflects a less isolationist approach to national security, predicting a 3% annual increase in defense allocations for the next decade and calling for upgrades to both naval and air capabilities. Agreement that Australia's safety will depend more on protection of its Asia-Pacific neighbors than on simple territorial defense is expressed.
