Australia takes delivery of its first C-130J-30 Hercules aircraft
Article Abstract:
Lockheed Martin Aeronautical Systems has delivered the first of 12 C-130J- 30 Hercules strategic transport contract to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). The company has been awarded an A$900 million ($585 million) contract build 12 aircraft under the RAAF's Project 5216 program. The C- 130J-30 aircraft features a "stretched airframe" and is powered by four Rolls-Royce Allison AE2100D turboprops with composite six-blade Dowty propellers.

Australian landing-platform modernization moves on despite delays
Article Abstract:
Forgacs Dockyard is to continue the upgrading of the Royal Australian Navy's two ex-US Navy Newport-class landing ship tank despite project schedule and cost problems. The project, which was originally estimated to cost $72 million, will now cost about $240 million. After a 26-month delay, the HMS Manoora is expected to enter service in 2000. The upgrade of the HMS Kanimbla has been delayed by 35 months.
