Austria: Investment requirement in road projects
Article Abstract:
An expert committee on behalf of the Austrian Infrastructure Ministry has presented its report on road construction investments. The report recommends investments of Sch 164.6bn in road projects by 2015, while further projects worth Sch 42.3bn should be postponed. The projects are to be financed with revenues from motorway tolls for cars and lorries. Fifteen projects with a total investment of Sch 18bn are seen as suitable for public-private partnerships. The paper publishes a list of 22 large projects.

AUSTRIA: NEW BRIDGE OVER THE DANUBE
Article Abstract:
A decision has been taken on the location of the planned new bridge across the Danube in Lower Austria. Environment impact studies on the bridge in Traismauer are to begin at the end of 2001. Construction start is scheduled for 2005 and completion in 2008. The bridge with a length of 350 m that involves investments of Sch 1.1bn will link the Western motorway and the planned Northern motorway.

AUSTRIA: PROGRESS IN VIENNA BYPASS PLANS
Article Abstract:
The signing of a special decree by Austria's Infrastructure Minister Michael Schmid paves the way for the detailed planning of Vienna's southern bypass B 301. Osterreichische Autobahnen und Schnellstrasen AG (OSAG) expects to be able to start work on the project in autumn 2001. The new road will start at the Vosendorf junction and join the airport motorway A4 in Schwechat.
