Article Abstract:
The Tiruchirapalli complex of Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd consists of the Boiler plant, Seamless steel tube unit, the boiler auxiliaries unit at Ranipet and the industrial valves unit at Goindwal. The complex produces fluidised bed and circulating fluidised bed boilers, heat recovery steam generators, chemical recovery boilers, gravimetric feeders, nuclear steam generating equipment and pressure vessels among others. The company has tied up for technology with LLB Lurgi Lenjets Babcock Energietechnik GmbH of Germany. The complex is currently executing the order for 2X125 mw CFBC boilers from the Surat Lignite Power Project. The company has set up a National Model Centre for Occupational Health Services with assistance from UNDP. (khr)

BHEL ON REVAMP LIST, CENTRE ON LOOK OUT FOR CONSULTANT

The Government of India is likely to shortlist international consultants like McKinsey, Arthur Andersen and KPMG for preparing an organisational restructuring and downsizing plan for Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL). The restructuring will enable BHEL to focus on core areas of business. The consultant will study BHEL's strengths and weaknesses and prepare a detailed report. BHEL has chalked out a Vision 2001 plan. It proposes to increase its sales from $1.4 billion to $3.4 billion by 2000 AD. It plans to invest in equities of power projects. (rk)

BHEL PROFITS SLIP 51% TO Rs73 Cr
Article Abstract:
Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (+) has posted a 51 percent fall in its operating profit to Rs73.15 crore during April-September 1998 (Rs149.41 crore during April-September 1997). The fall in the operating profit is attributed to the payment of ad hoc wages. During the period, BHEL posted a 70 percent rise in the other income to Rs209.05 crore (Rs122.73 crore) and a 13 percent rise in the net profit to Rs132.48 crore. (ag)
