Article Abstract:
The Tiruchirapalli unit of Bharat Heavy Electrical Ltd (BHEL) produces fluidised bed and circulating fluidised bed combustion boilers, heat recovery steam generators, chemical recovery boilers, gravimetric feeders, Nuclear steam generating equipment, pressure vessels and wind electric generators among others. It has developed direct ignition of pulverised coal systems which will help in cutting down fuel costs. The unit has set up a National Model Centre for Occupational Health Services at Tiruchy. The unit has supplied boilers to the Tamil Nadu Electricity board for its power stations to generate 2750 mw. (khr)

BHEL: HOLDING ITS OWN IN GLOBAL MARKETS
Article Abstract:
The Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has 180 products in 30 groups. It has secured 86 percent of power plant orders in international competitive bidding in India from 1978. It has secured more than 100 contracts for gas turbines in India and abroad. It has developed 400 kV spark gaps and they have been tested at KEMA in Netherlands. Its 145 kV gas insulated switch gear has been tested at CESI in Italy. It has exported a cumulative capacity of power generating equipment of more than 300 mw. Its exports netted Rs1,784 crore in 1997-98 (Rs276 crore in 1989-90). (rk)
