COPRA PROCUREMENT MAY TOUCH RECORD LEVEL IN KERALA
Article Abstract:
Procurement of copra in Kerala state in the current season has touched a level of 2,120 tonnes. With this the annual total of copra procurement has risen to 6,000 tonnes (an approximate quantity of 9,000 tonnes in 1997). Kerafed had been able to get 63 tonnes in the first week of June, 1998 from nine districts in Kerala, while Marketfed got only 16 tonnes of copra during same period. Due to farmer's demand for better realisation, Indian government has directed Nafed to buy 30,000 tonnes of copra at Rs2,900 per quintal under price support scheme. (gs)
