B&W TV SALES MAY DROP FOLLOWING CTV PRICE REDUCTION
Article Abstract:
There is likely to be a decline in sales of black and white (B&W) television sets following a 24-25 percent reduction in the prices of colour television (CTV) sets. The sales of B&W televisions has also been affected by the second-hand CTV market. The total production of B&W television sets is likely to come down to around 5.3 million units in 1998-99 against 6 million sets in 1997-98. The price of a 20 inch B&W set is about Rs3500-4000 while that of a 14 inch CTV is Rs7000-8000. (khr)

TAX WAIVER ON FILM SOFTWARE A MODERATE BOX OFFICE HIT
Article Abstract:
The government has conceded the demand for tax exemption on earnings from exports of film, television, music and other entertainment software. The finance ministry has planned to introduce a new section 80-HHF in the Income Tax Act, to permit tax waiver for profits from export of films and entertainment software. But a section of the industry is disappointed as the demand for abolishing the 18 percent countervailing duty on raw film stock has not been met. (khr)
