Barclays projects higher revenue, costs

Barclays Bank PLC of the United Kingdom has announced that financial projections will exceed expectations in 2006. Pretax profit for 2006 is forecast to be 6.18 billion Pounds ($11.58 billion). The banking giant continues to benefit from product diversification although higher costs and impairment fees are expected this year.

RBS's net profit rises 18% on retail lending abroad

Royal Bank of Scotland PLC of the United Kingdom posted a soaring 18 percent increase in first half net profit to 2.98 Pounds ($5.63 billion) from 2.53 billion Pounds last year. Revenues were due to increased business in corporate markets and financial services. Retail lending in foreign markets was also strong.

Standard Chartered net increased 18 percent last year
