Basle bust-up
Article Abstract:
There have been criticisms of proposed changes to the Basle Accord for the banking industry. The revision aimed to ensure that banks' capital was linked to loan portfolio risks. There are problems in assessing risk levels, and credit-rating agencies could be used. Banks could also use internal ratings. There is still preparation to be completed, and there is a risk that agreement on changes to the Basel Accord could be undermined if there is a delay.
