Article Abstract:
Chile is expected to privatize its electric utility, Empresa Nacional de Electricidad SA (Endesa Chile). Companies seeking to acquire it include Grupo Endesa, Spain, and Duke Energy Corp of the US. Both companies already own extensive holdings in Latin America, and acquisition of Endesa would strengthen their presence in the region.
