Bau und Erneuerung von Br cken notwendig
Article Abstract:
In Hungary, according to experts, there are 2,500 bridges which need to be renovated within the next 15 to 20 years. Total costs of the modernisation projects are estimated at Ft 73bn. However, the Hungarian government is lacking money: after annual investments of Ft 1.1bn-1.2bn in the last three years, Ft 1.6bn is to be provided for bridge renovation in 1998. The government is hoping for support from international banks. It is also to grant concessions to foreign companies to build and operate new bridges. The construction of a new bridge over the Danube river at Szekszard has been put out to tender for the second time. The bridge is estimated to cost Ft 22bn-30bn. A Ft 25bn motorway bridge over the Danube is planned near Budapest. After 2001, a road bridge is to be built at Dunaujvaros for Ft 10bn-12bn. In the border town of Esztergom, Hungary is in negotiations with neighbouring Slovakia about a common bridge project. Besides, there are still 18 ferry connections over the Danube, which will have to be gradually replaced by bridges.

CKD soll Hochgeschwindigkeitsz ge bauen
Article Abstract:
The first Czech-made high-speed trains are not likely to be completed before the second half of 2001. The engineering group CKD Holding and the Czech railway company are negotiating a revised contract for ten Rychlovlak 680 trains. CKD Holding and its subsidiary CKD Dopvarni systemy of Prague-Zilin are quoting Kc 745mn per train, which is Kc 100mn-250mn cheaper than foreign trains. The Czech railway company wants to buy Czech trains in order to keep costs down. The development of the Rychlovlak 680 trains has been delayed partly by the severe train accident in Germany in June 1998. Prototypes of the Czech trains are being tested also in Germany. The Czech Republic's first high-speed train line would be the Berlin-Prague-Vienna line. The European Union has granted ECU 50mn for the project.
