Bayer joins race to build German drug titan

An acquisition bidding war for Schering AG of Germany has rivals Bayer AG of Germany and Merck KGaA also of Germany in competition. Bayer's latest volley is expected to win the acquisition, with an offer of 16.34 billion Euros ($19.73 billion). The anticipated company would be called Bayer-Schering Pharmaceuticals with projected sales of $9 billion per year.

TomTom escalates bid war for digital mapper

Dutch satellite navigation equipment manufacturer TomTom N.V. has increased its bid for Tele Atlas N.V., a Netherlands digital map company. The new $4.22 bil bid represents a 41% increase over its July 2007 bid, and tops a counterbid by US-based Garmin Ltd.
