China's first steps to pension reform

China has succeeded in establishing a framework for its basic pension plan system. The country's pension system has been plagued by inconsistent policies across regions, causing confusion for most Chinese workers and employers. The next step would be to establish a supplementary pension system to pay for worker pension. The move can encourage foreign companies to do business with China.

Local banks gain international clout

Indonesia's Danareksa and Bahana investment banks benefited largely from the government's privatization program. The two local investment banks even leveled off with their international counterparts like the United States' Merrill Lynch and Goldman Sachs. They gained international recognition for their financial strategies by encouraging smaller banks to compete in the financial market.
