Besieged Bridgestone shifts to adopt aggressive defense
Article Abstract:
Bridgestone Corp.'s U.S. subsidiary Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. has decided to operate its crisis-control effort exclusively in the U.S., without the approval of Tokyo management. The decision was made after allegations from Ford that Firestone tires caused several Ford Explorer accidents. By allowing itself distance from Ford, Bridegstone/Firestone hopes it will be able to prove that the Ford Explorer's design and lower tire pressure standards contributed to 174 U.S. deaths and 700 injuries suffered by Explorer owners.

Despite plunge, Bridgestone is no bargain, analysts say
Article Abstract:
Bridgestone Corp.'s stock price has been cut in half, falling to 967 yen recently, lowering the company's market value $9 billion as a result of the Bridgestone/Firestone Inc's mass tire recall. Analysts agree that despite the low price, now is not a good time to buy Bridgestone stock because future lawsuits, rising oil prices related to the raw materials of its products, and the falling euro against the yen are sure to cause financial difficulties for the company.

Bridgestone draws interest
Article Abstract:
Even though Bridgestone Corp. has undergone massive losses since a recall on Firestone tires last year and the Ford Motor Co.'s tire replacement this year, stock analysts see the company as a possible long-term investment. Bridgestone/Firestone Inc.'s closure of its Decatur, Illinois plant, and increasing sales of other tire brands have caused analysts to raise their ratings for the beleagured company.
