The United Kingdom retail market for bicycles fel marginally to 291 million pounds sterling in 1995 from 294 million pounds sterling in 1994. Volume sales remained static at 2.35 million units. The market is expected to show growth due to the increasing trend towards environmentally friendly pursuits and cycling holidays. Participation in cycling grew to 7.5% of adults in 1994 compared with 6.9% in 1992. The market is also expected to grow by value as the popularity of cycling increases. Mopeds/scooters accounted for 87.2% of volume sales in Italy in 1994 and are the most significant segment of the Italian motor cycle market. The Italian market for mopeds/scooters in Europe accounted for over 50% of total sales in 1994. Total volume sales of motor cycles stood at 573,460 in 1994, down 6.6% since 1990. Total value sales stood at L2,604 billion in 1994, and were flat between 1990-1994.
