Bill Allen, expert on defects, lighting and acoustics

Bill Allen was a founding partner of Bickerdike Allen and Partners, and was a well known building-defects analyst. He showed flair for achieving creative and meaningful relationships between architecture, science, technology and design from an early age. He developed Bickerdike Allen and Partners' consultancy services in the areas of acoustics, lighting, construction defects and innovative technologies. He became expert in display lighting, introducing pin-point fibre optics, and specialized in the lighting of museums and galleries.

The work of Japan's Fourth Generation of post-war architects, which is on show at the RIBA Architecture Centre in London, UK, in Mar-Apr 1996, is characterised by its detailed and sensitive approach to design and by is modest scale. The exhibition, 'Emerging Architects in Japan: Epigenetic Scene', shows how the work of the Fourth Generation architects balances individuality with broader social, cultural and consumer values. The work also demonstrates Japanese architects' commitment to craftsmanship.
