Bio-oil in the Czech Republic
Article Abstract:
Czech Republic: The prospective and real potential of the capacity of the production of rape oil methylester (ROM) is about 180,000 t per year. The extension of ROM production is connected with the enlargement of rape sowing areas. Rape was grown on an area of 500,000 ha in 2000. Non-cultivated land and land after the recultivation of the areas of former coal mines can be utilized for further expansion of rape production. There was non-cultivated land with an area of about 300,000-350,000 ha in the Czech Republic in 2000. About 100,000 t of ROM should be produced in 2001, which corresponds to the processing of 300,000-340,000 t of rape per year. The total ROM production capacities are 65,000 t per year at the beginning of 2001, which corresponds to the processing of 200,000-230,000 t of rape per year and represents about 3% of total Diesel oil consumption in the Czech Republic. The largest Czech ROM producer is the fat-based products firm Lukana (Olomouc, Czech Republic) at the beginning of 2001. Lukana, which has plants in Olomouc and Mydlovary, the Czech Republic, has a 70% share on the market.

Termo Decin
Article Abstract:
Termo Decin (Decin, Czech Republic), involved in geothermal power, is improving the environmental situation in the Decin region. The firm commissioned equipment based on the direct utilisation of geothermal water as hot service water in the region at the end of May 1998. The equipment supplies underground water, which is heated to a temperature of 50-60 degrees Celsius, to 1,600 households in Decin. The realisation of the project, which is the largest hitherto project in the Czech Republic, cost about 37 mil Kc. The Phare programme of the European Union provided the project with 500,000 ECU. Another project utilising geothermal power should be realised at a cost of about 450 mil Kc by 2001. Heat taken from hot water will be utilised for long-distance heating and geothermal water will be supplied as drinking water. According to a survey realised in Decin in 1985-1990, the use efficiency is about 150 lt of water with a temperature of 26-32 degrees Celsius per second in the region.

Agropodnik Jihlava extends its bio-oil production
Article Abstract:
Agropodnik Jihlava (AJ) (Jihlava, Czech Republic), bio-oil producer, will increase its rape oil methylester (ROM) production capacity 10-times in 2001. At the beginning of 2001 AJ is completing a project, which will enable it to increase its capacity to 30,000 t of ROM per year. ROM is a basic raw-material for bio-oil production. AJ's ROM capacity is 5,000 t per year currently compared to the original 3,000 t per year.
