Blame it on the bubbles
Article Abstract:
Cyprien Gay, a physicist at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique in Paris, France, has linked with Ludwik Leibler of French chemical concern Elf Atochem to undertake research into stickiness. This work has made it possible to develop a new theory which could offer one possible explanation for why some materials become more sticky than simple laws of physics suggest that they should be. The researchers measured the amount of energy required to pull a metallic probe off a sticky surface. It was found that air bubbles are trapped between the probe and the surface. As the probe is pulled, the bubbles are stretched and become microscopic suction cups.

Blame it on Vasari: artists' lives on film
Article Abstract:
'Surviving Picasso' portrays Picasso as a boor who oppressed everyone around him. The movie follows the tradition of art biographer Vasari, who understood that portrayals of artists were more interesting of they captured their personalities as well as their craft.
