Russia is preparing to embark on the most massive and risky privatization effort of all the ex-communist countries. They desperately need to get industry out of state hands in order to increase output of goods enough to bring prices down.

Russia is selling stores through auctions to speed up privatization. The first large auction was held on Apr 4. It resulted in the sale of 22 lots and raised 47 million roubles.
