Boeing deal with Taiwan may hamper China trade
Article Abstract:
Boeing Co.'s recent agreement with Taiwan concerning the sale of eight Boeing 777 jets for $1.12 billion has jeopardized its relations with China. Moreover, several aircraft industry officials expressed concern that Boeing's indiscretion regarding the Taiwan deal could extend to the overall US-China trade relations, which have already been adversely affected by Taiwanese Pres. Lee Teng-hui's US state visit. In an attempt to appease the Chinese, Boeing donated a $23 million Boeing 737 flight simulator to China' largest pilot academy in Chengdu, Szechuan Province.

Burma's jumping felines are cat's meow to tourists
Article Abstract:
One of Burma's most interesting tourist attractions is Inle Lake near the town of Nyaung Shwe. The lake is home to the Nga Hpe Chaung Monastery, a Buddhist temple where resident monks have trained cats to jump through hoops. The inhabitants of the area, who are called 'Inthas,' maintain vegetable gardens which float on the lake surface. Another peculiar Intha practice concerns their method of fishing. Intha fishermen perch on the boat's stern with one foot curled around the oar so they can propel the craft while keeping both hands free for other tasks.
