Samsung Electronics may see end to big profit from NAND

Samsung Electronics Company Ltd. of South Korea, memory chip maker, earned almost as much from NAND (not and - a type of microchip logic) as it did from dynamic-random-acccess-memory chips, although the revenue from DRAM chips was 37 percent more in the first quarter. NAND chip prices are expected to fall approximately 40 percent this year and a further 52 percent in the coming year. Samsung Electronics Company Ltd. is forecast to lose revenue in a difficult financial year for the semiconductor giant.

Chip maker TSMC's net rises 85%, but outlook is gloomy

TAiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd. of Taiwan posted a stellar 85 percent increase in second quarter profit. Net profit is 34 billion New Taiwan Dollars ($1.04 billion) from $18.37 billion New Taiwan Dollars last year. Revenues were driven by high demand for semiconductor chips used in communications equipment and consumer electronic goods.

Infineon reports narrower net loss, expects weakness
Article Abstract:
Infineon Technologies AG of Germany has net losses of 36 million Euros ($46.2 million) for the fourth quarter from a net loss of 100 million Euros last year. Sales are up 32 percent to 2.29 billion Euros from 1.73 billion Euros. Revenue losses are due to decreased market share at its cell phone business and a stock offering at its memory-chip unit.
