Bolters take off
Article Abstract:
The Israeli parliament will have an election campaign lasting almost five months with voting scheduled for May 17 1999 and a run-off vote likely to occur on Jun 1 1999. The Labor party and ruling Likud party are both concerned about the popularity of Amnon Lipkin-Shakak, head of a new party from the political center who has not formally declared that he will stand as a candidate to be prime minister. Both parties' leaders hope that his popularity will recede if the campaign is long.
