Boomers and echo kids
Article Abstract:
Canada's expanding population of 50-year-old adults and 20-year-old GenXers will be a source of confusion for many retailers, as the country enters the 21st century. It is expected that cheap beer and $20 wines would enjoy booming sales. Likewise, the latter category may rent basement suites but their senior counterparts may spend C$100,000 renovating luxurious empty nests. The older but affluent consumers will most likely shop at the neighborhood stores but the younger generation will buy used cars and the cheapest appliances once they enter the labor force.

Hong Kong's TV big bang
Article Abstract:
Hong Kong's already saturated television broadcasting market is opening up to new competition with the promotion of fiber-optic integration of the urban fabric by the government. Based on the government's blueprint for amending and making new provisions to the television, Hong Kong will allow almost anyone to obtain a broadcast license by the last quarter of 1999. At present, the four major television licensees in the Hong Kong market include TVB, ATV, Hong Kong Cable Communications Ltd and Star Satellite TV.
