Brazil's democracy has been strengthened by its commitment to economic and political reforms, even as Pres Collor de Mello attempts to overcome a corruption scandal. The Collor government can point to a number of achievements in its defense, such as its debt restructuring deal with Brazil's creditor banks.

Collor has done Brazil a great disservice by bringing greed and dubious conduct to the presidency. He must be removed from office so that the country can enjoy prosperity without ineffectiveness and corruption.
